August at Golden Pond is full of creativity, friendship, local outings, and new ways to connect. Start with the month's biggest dates, then explore the stories behind each event.

An aloha-inspired summer celebration

Golden Pond's annual luau returns with an afternoon centered on music, food, laughter, and time with neighbors. Residents can look forward to:

  • Live hula dancers and Hawaiian music
  • Tropical drinks, Hawaiian-inspired favorites, and classic barbecue
  • Hawaiian shirts, floral dresses, leis, beach hats, and other island attire
  • A Best Dressed Resident Contest

The activity calendar lists Luau Happy Hour with Prestige for August 21 at 4:00 PM.

Share words and stories at the Poetry Slam

After the community's Talent Show, residents and team members suggested a new way to share their creativity: a Golden Pond Poetry Slam on August 31.

Participants can choose the format that feels right for them:

  • Read a favorite poem or inspiring quote.
  • Share a meaningful passage from a book.
  • Present something they wrote themselves.
  • Listen and enjoy the stories behind each selection.

A new National Charity League partnership

Golden Pond is beginning a partnership with the National Charity League, an organization of mothers and daughters who volunteer together while developing leadership skills and serving their communities.

The volunteers will support community life in several ways:

  • Games and crafts
  • One-on-one visits
  • Special events
  • Larger community celebrations

A Meet and Greet is planned for August 5 at 2:45 PM so residents can welcome the volunteers and begin building new friendships.

Outings, trivia, and lifelong learning

Wednesday outings offer four ways to explore the local community:

  • August 5: Whole Foods
  • August 12: Hobby Lobby
  • August 19: Target
  • August 26: Heinie's Market

Trivia Social comes to the Bistro on August 7 and 14 at 2:00 PM, with questions covering history, music, movies, pop culture, and more. Active Minds returns August 20 at 2:00 PM with a program focused on Louis Armstrong.

Supporting the fight against Alzheimer's

Golden Pond continues its Alzheimer's fundraising efforts in August:

  • Visit the purple fundraising table to see items available for purchase.
  • Each purchase supports the community's fundraising campaign.
  • The effort builds on support shown at the Craft Show and Tie-Dye Day.

Celebrating the people who make Golden Pond special

August includes resident birthday celebrations and recognition for team members who make a difference every day. This month's Employee of the Month is MJ, whose warm smile, positive attitude, and willingness to help residents and coworkers have made her a valued part of the Golden Pond community.
